MP24: The Return

You may or may not have noticed that there haven't been any mirror project entries here in a few months.  When I redesigned my photoblog I decided to make the mirror project a weekend feature on the photoblog itself.  But I missed posting the photos here too because the photos always gave me a chance to ramble on about something or other which as you know is my forte.

So I am making a return to mirror project entries here.  I am still reserving my very favorite for the photoblog (you can see the photos go by on the sidebar), but I usually have several other photos that I don't get to use there that I will be able to share here.

Today's photo is similar to the one that will post this weekend.  There were two shots I took in the same location, but there were differences in composition.  These are the glass blocks at the Glassell School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

MP23: Silver Piggy Back

I'm not feeling very chatty in real life or in blog life. I have worked hard to make sure this is a place that I feel free to share what I'm going through, and I *am* dealing with stuff, but I just don't feel like sharing it and I think that can be ok too. I have the freedom to do what I want.

This is from my dinner this weekend with Jay and Cynthia. I am grateful that I had such a pleasant distraction from my stresses and of course nothing beats a home cooked meal by a wonderful cook.

MP22: The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

I went to see The Dark Knight on Tuesday. It is everything you have heard. Well maybe not everything. I've heard the term "best movie ever" and I don't think it is that, but it is certainly one of the best super hero movies ever, one of the best action movies ever.

Movies are very subjective. What one person may love, another person may hate. I'm trying to decide how to describe my movie tastes. I actually don't go to very many movies. This summer I've gone to more than ever. Indiana Jones, Sex and the City, The Dark Knight on my must see list. Get Smart was an impromptu visit and it was ok. You will never catch me at anything that is just slapstick or stupid humor. I'm also not into overly weepy dramas. Maybe epic action best describes it. Indy, Harry Potter, The Dark Knight, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc.

Taken with the iPhone and processed in Lightroom.

MP21: Mola and Me

Mola and Me

This is a Mola made by the Kuna women of Panama. If you didn't know I'm half Panamanian. That is where my dark curly hair and dark eyes come from, not to mention my difficult last name. I lived there until I was three years old. I don't speak Spanish unfortunately and I haven't been back, but I would love to go someday. I have a huge family that I don't even know.

I have a piece of Mola that I am going to get framed someday (hopefully sooner, rather than later) and my mom has several pieces that she had made into a quilt. It was very cool to see this in the Houston Museum of Natural Science. As you can tell it was hard to photograph, and I wasn't going for the reflection, but once I saw it I ran with it.

You can read more about Molas here.

MP19: Seeing Double

Seeing Double

From my visit this past weekend to Discovery Green for Dock Dogs. I really love this park. My aunt is coming into town tomorrow and we are going to go eat at The Grove. I'm looking forward to it since it will be my first time to eat there. Next week I will be meeting with someone from Discovery Green to talk about ways to feature the great photographs that local photographers are taking of the park. It is all very exciting and a little intimidating.

MP18: Straightforward

Straightforward

This is a plain old ordinary, straight up, mirror project. This was taken in the restroom in a hotel in The Woodlands.

Also, I finally found the photo that I referred to in this post about my trip to Space Center Houston. You can click through to the larger image. I'm also glad I got it scanned since it is one of my very favorite photos and has a lot of sentimental value.

MP17: Multiple Me

Multiple Me

It's been three and a half weeks since my last mirror project. Way too long! This is in the Da Vinci exhibit at HMNS. I saw this room in someone's photo stream at Flickr and knew that it had to be a mirror project. I mean a room full of mirrors? How can you not!

It was very dark in there hence the blurry image. Since I am spending my summer at the museum I could go in and retake it, but I'm not sure how to combat the dim lighting other than dragging in a tripod which I doubt I can do. Times like this I wish I had a camera with a higher ISO. I don't feel comfortable pushing the XT past 400.

I won't even discuss seeing myself at all different angles! But it has been so long since I posted a mirror project that I ran with it anyway. Hopefully I can get myself back on the once a week track.

MP15: One day blurs into another

It's been a long week in a string of long weeks. The end of the school year is always a hectic time. When I came back from spring break I sat down and made a separate checklist for every activity that we had between March and the end of the school year. Once I was done I had 11 sheets of paper full of things to do. Above that I put the giant number 10 as a countdown for how many weeks we had left in school. I should have taken a picture of it; it was quite an impressive sight. It stopped people in their tracks when they came into my office. Now we are on week 4, soon to be week 3, and the sheets are starting to come off the wall at an accelerated rate.

It is a good feeling, but being organized doesn't stop me from having long, late nights like I did tonight (left work at 8 pm) or having weeks like this week where I had something every single day after school and a big field trip tomorrow. Every day blurs into the next, all one long march to the last day of the school year. Between now and that beautiful day I have two major field trips, a competition, a performance, two rehearsals, a concert, a party where the kids will throw a pie at me, end of year grades and district inventory inspection. All in the next threeish weeks.

This is my office. My reflection is in the glass from my window that looks out into the choir room. You can see bits and pieces from the room like the flag and the column of light near my face which is actually a door across my room that opens to a hallway. Click the photo to see some notes I've added on the Flickr page.
