Say Hello
So here is my new little friend. I think of it as more of a temporary fix for the next year or so. It only cost me $167. That is about all I can afford right now in an emergency replacement camera. If I waited until I could get a high end compact I would be waiting for months. It has a lot of the same features as my dearly departed (and actually more megapixels), it just feels a little less substantial. More light and plastic where my other one was heavier and more metal. I think it will be fine for the time being.
I wish I could afford something a little more high end. That is one of the pangs of sadness I'm feeling about the camera switch. The S45 was a very high quality camera and it did right by me. This photo will be its crowning achievement and it is still my top photo ever. And yes I do get quite sentimental about inanimate objects. It's a curse. I'm sure I'll come to love the newbie. In fact I just realized they both have the numbers 4 and 5. And yes that IS how my mind works. Whatever connection I can make to bridge the gap.

Oh, good!
(Which photo? I'm not seeing a link...)

Whoops. Thanks for that catch. I got it linked now.

What, no Holga? :)
My sympathies on your camera loss. The A-series cameras are quite nifty, though.
Holiday plans? Going shooting soon?

Haha.... I'd love a Holga, but I really don't have the means for properly processing the shots. Or the money to get said means. I'm glad that people are high on the A series. It's always sad to lose a friend and I'm kind of nervous about it. But if it doesn't work, I'll just say it's only temporary.
And yes as a matter of fact I'm going to Hermann Park tonight. Fog (hopefully) and Christmas lights, how can you beat that.

I started Brad off on with an A-series; Daniel is using it now. They're plenty "good enough"!

I ordered the Fuji F20. It was $175 with a 512mb memory card.

Ian, you don't think you'll need a viewfinder for bright days?
Posted by: laanba | December 17, 2006 at 10:32 PM
Nah. All the finders on non-dSLR cams I've used are nothing more than fuzzy peepholes anyway, little more accurate than "guesstimating" the frame if the LCD is washed out.

Cracking camera... took my dad down to Walmart today to pick one up. In store price was $199.95, but I took a printout from the Walmart website showing the price as 168.95 and they let me have it! You cannot beat the features for the price! My dad is happy now!

Yeah, I'm sure I'll be fine after I use the camera some. I think I got some shots today and learned some things about a few of the settings. I feel better about it.

I'm still debating about picking up one of those little cameras that fit in your shirt pocket. I tried one out last night at Best Buy and fell in love with it! Super fast start up, two modes of stabilization, excellent lens, and dark red! Not sure about the $300 price tag though… but it’s still super cute and much easier to carry around than my Fuji.

Do it! Do it! I just think you will take a lot more pictures if you have always have a little camera with you.
